The World Academy of Ceramics (WAC), the central organization for international ceramics researchers, was founded in 1987 to promote progress in ceramics science and the understanding of technology, history, and social and cultural interactions.
The WAC’s biennially elected academics – 15 in total in recent years – have made significant international contributions to the development of ceramics. The appointment of an academician rewards personal merit in the field. The rigorous evaluation process aims to guarantee excellence, transparency, and democracy.
Kati Balázsi and Csaba Balázsi have been respected members of the WAC for many years. Csaba Balázsi won the honor in the 19th academic election for 2021-23 and Kati Balázsi was one of the winners of the 20th election, after seven previous nominations.
Justification for Kati’s election as WAC Academician: “For her outstanding contributions to ceramic science for biomedical applications, international collaborations, and promotion of under-represented groups”
We, who have known Kati’s work and activities since she was a PhD student, can only agree. And the picture taken at the award ceremony could not have been a more striking illustration of the end of that justification.
