Established in 1989, the Gábor Dénes Prize is one of the greatest awards of the Hungarian scientific and engineering community. It aims to recognize outstanding achievements in technical and intellectual creation, engineering and technological development. The award is presented at a ceremony in the Parliament House.

Balázs Rózsa and his team follow their research year after year at our annual conferences. Balázs’ latest achievement is to be awarded this prestigious Gábor Dénes Prize in recognition of his achievements in developing new, innovative tools and commercialising them on the world market, as well as for pioneering international scientific collaborations.

Balázs holds a degree in medicine and physics, is Director of the BrainVisionCenter Research Institute and Competence Centre and works at the HUN-REN Research Institute for Experimental Medicine, where he has been working since 2002. Since 2016 has been Head of the Neuronal Networks and Dendritic Activity Research Group. From 2005 to 2008, he was a member of the two-photon scanning microscope development team, and since 2008 he has been the leader of the three-dimensional two-photon microscope development team. Since 2010, he has been leading the Multi-photon Research Group at PPKE.

In 2021, in collaboration with Botond Roska and the Hungarian State, he founded the BrainVisionCenter Research Institute and Competence Centre, a significant milestone in his research career. The mission of the institute is to develop new procedures and equipment for the therapy and diagnosis of central nervous system diseases. Their goals include partial visual restoration in forms of blindness where the optic nerve is missing or damaged.

We wish them the best of luck in achieving their goals and congratulate Balázs on his award!
